Between November 8–11, 2018, the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre organizes the second edition of the “Ion Dacian” Festival, an event conceived as a tribute to the renowned Romanian tenor, principal soloist, stage director, and former director of the Bucharest Operetta Theatre.
The festival opens on November 8, at 7:00 PM, at the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre, with the gala performance “Opereta Fest.”
The “Ion Dacian” Festival is, above all, a celebration — an occasion to honor the emblematic figure who transformed operetta into a cultural hallmark of Romania, a legacy that must be preserved and carried forward at the highest standards of tradition and artistic value.
“The festival aims to highlight the enduring need for good music, brilliant voices, and moments of normality and artistic excellence.” — Bianca Ionescu‑Ballo, Interim General Manager.
The gala brings to the audience beloved pages of operetta, musical theatre, canzonettas, zarzuelas, and chansonettes, written by celebrated composers such as: Johann Strauss II (Wiener Blut), Franz Lehár (Giuditta), Emmerich Kálmán (The Circus Princess, Silvia, Maritza), Paul Abraham (Victoria and Her Hussar), Frederick Loewe (My Fair Lady), Jerry Bock (Fiddler on the Roof), Léo Delibes (Les filles de Cadix), Agustín Lara (Granada), Pablo Sorozábal (La tabernera del puerto), Ernesto De Curtis (Non ti scordar di me), and others.
