Operetta: Birth Certificate

Operetta: Birth Certificate is a production that brings back into focus the humorous and satirical roots of the genre through a surprising combination of works by Pergolesi and Bach. The three musical miniatures — La serva padrona, The Coffee Cantata, and The Peasant Cantata — are reinterpreted on stage in a contemporary key, while preserving the original music in its entirety, in an artistic approach that brings Baroque humor into the present.

Conceived as a launchpad for young vocal soloists, the production introduces an absolute premiere in Romania: the first staged performance of The Peasant Cantata. It is a project that blends tradition with the energy of the younger generation and highlights, through a playful and intelligent spirit, the deep connection between opera, operetta, and the early beginnings of musical theatre.
