On May 30, the Opereta Lounge — the newest cultural and social hub in the capital — opens its doors to the passionate, lively, warm, and colorful world of music from the shores of the Mediterranean. The sweeping melodies of “Granada” and “Valencia”, along with the sentimental tones of “Jurname” or “No puede ser”, will fill the air, while the noble emotions evoked in canzonettas such as “’O Sole Mio”, “Mamma”, or “Santa Lucia” will bring to the audience the vibrant harmonies of the Italian coastline.
You are therefore invited to a “best of” concert, featuring some of the most beloved melodies that reflect the warm spirit of Spanish and Italian music, from the classical repertoire to modern favorites.
Your guide on this musical journey will be the acclaimed tenor Ștefan von Korch. The soloist makes his debut at the Opereta Lounge after a series of appearances earlier this year at the Operas of Iași and Timișoara, on the stage of the Târgu Mureș Philharmonic, as well as at Sala Dalles in Bucharest. Joining him is pianist Alexandru Burcă, a distinguished name known for his virtuosity and remarkable versatility, who will envelop the evening in warm, expressive harmonies.
With a rising national and international career, Ștefan von Korch performed in March 2024 the vocal‑symphonic masterpiece Stabat Mater on the stage of the Târgu Mureș Philharmonic—one of the jewels of Giacomo Rossini’s repertoire, considered a true test of virtuosity for any tenor. Earlier this year, he also appeared at the Iași Opera in the sparkling role of Camille de Jolidon in The Merry Widow 2.0, directed by Andrei Șerban, and at the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara in Mario Di Carlo’s production of The Merry Widow.
Throughout 2023, the tenor captivated audiences with masterful interpretations of the demanding tenor passages in Carmina Burana—a work for which he is considered a benchmark performer—and was the only Romanian soloist on a 27‑city tour across China. Other highlights of his career include leading roles in operas and operettas presented on some of the most prominent stages in Romania: The Barber of Seville, The Elixir of Love, and Falstaff (Bucharest National Opera); Rigoletto, The Merry Widow, and The Merry Widow 2.0 (Iași National Opera); I Puritani (national premiere), Rigoletto, and The Barber of Seville (Cluj‑Napoca Romanian National Opera), among others.
