A Love Story Beneath a Carpet of Stars
With the Musica Viva Ensemble
(pianist Andreea Butnaru, violinist Adrian Florescu, and cellist Florin Mitrea)
Our musical tale is dedicated to all of you who love and fall in love—at any age—under the fragrant arches of parks, beside the flowing waters of springs, within the sophisticated harmonies of French music, and the fiery spirit of the Italian tradition. A stream of passion, whimsy, charm, and joy will pour into the foyer of the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre, bringing to life colorful characters from the worlds of circus, Italian cinema, Parisian bohemia, and the legends of nymphs.
The program features Introduction and Ballet by Ermanno Wolf‑Ferrari, a love story between two characters who are romantic, tragic, and comic all at once. It is preceded by the lyrical sound of the cello in Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe”, the emblematic music from The Mission. From the world of circus and film, we journey into the most beautiful impressionist music—Claude Debussy’s Trio, a monument dedicated to passionate love—followed by Edward Elgar’s “Salut d’Amour”, a heartfelt tribute to affection. The evening concludes with a scene worthy of Italian cinema, full of quick turns, comic twists, and delightful entanglements, imagined by Nino Rota in his Trio.
