The Rock Masters

A new SUPER GROUP project, born from the need for musical diversity, initiated by Josef Ioji Kappl, former member of Phoenix, and built around his own musical creations. The project brings together Nicu Patoi, one of the most virtuosic guitarists in the country, as well as Narcis Tran‑Korsar and Codruț Croitoru, two young musicians whose voices bring freshness, color, and power to the ensemble.
They are joined by Marcel Moldovan on drums. MEȘTERII ROCK is not merely an entertainment project; it is also a cultural act, offering high‑quality music and profound lyrics written by great masters of poetry such as Șerban Foarță, Andrei Ujică, Florin Dumitrescu, Cătălin Răcilă, along with several texts by the composer himself.

Josef Ioji Kappl, the renowned bassist of the legendary band Phoenix, is the leader of the project.
His work as a composer and arranger includes contributions to three iconic Phoenix albums: Cei ce ne‑au dat nume, Mugur de fluier, and especially Cantafabule, still considered the greatest Romanian rock album of all time. His creations also include the rock opera Meșterul Manole, the album Legenda 2016 with Pasărea Rock, and a series of new pieces featured on the album Cavalcada.

Nicu Patoi, one of Romania’s most prominent guitarists, is the leader of the Platonic Band and Equilateral projects, and a long‑time collaborator of Berti Barbera and Ștefan Bănică. Since 2016, he has contributed wholeheartedly, with inspiration and virtuosity, to the Pasărea Rock project and now to Meșterii Rock. Beginning in 2022, he also performs the guitar part in the Rock Opera Meșterul Manole.

Narcis Tran‑Korsar, a talented young musician with strong creative energy and already three solo albums, has fully embraced the musical world of Meșterii Rock, enriching their sound with his guitar and voice.

Codruț Croitoru is a young vocalist, multi‑instrumentalist, composer, and arranger, with stage experience alongside bands such as Compact and with his own group, Taylor Band, of which he is the leader.

Marcel Moldovan, an intelligent drummer appreciated by many fellow musicians — including “Smiley” — brings exceptional virtuosity, always placed in perfect service of the musical context.
