An innovative electronic music show inspired by Romanian folklore, “Dacika” offers a fresh reinterpretation of traditional motifs by adapting them to contemporary rhythms, musical expression, and state‑of‑the‑art production techniques. The effect of this music on the audience is striking: listeners are captivated by the spectacular sound design and by the unexpected spatial dimension created when deeply crafted electronic textures embrace well‑known folk themes.
Beyond the grandeur of the concept, the music composed by Mihai Toma conveys refinement and elegance. The subtlety of the thematic transformations reveals a profound understanding of the stylistic language from which the material is drawn.
The show explores the realm of monumental electronic music, built upon Romanian musical themes of both folkloric and cultivated origin. The orchestrations range from ritualistic tribal rhythms and epic percussion—blended with synthetic timbres and ethnic instruments—to soothing, ethereal soundscapes reminiscent of New Age aesthetics.
Through the use of whistle, piano, violin, orchestra, choir, and synthesizers, Mihai Toma revitalizes the essence of traditional musical expression, integrating it seamlessly into the cultural sensibilities of the present.
The works featured in the show will be performed by Bianca Ionescu‑Ballo and Daniela Bucșan, accompanied by Diana Jipa (violin), Ștefan Doniga (piano), Alexander Benavides (percussion), and the orchestra and choir of the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre.
