Mihaela Alexa

Mihaela Alexa was born on September 11, 1988, in the city of Bacău.

She began studying piano at the age of seven at the “George Apostu” School of Arts in her hometown, and starting in the ninth grade she continued with classical singing. Throughout grades I–XII, she was a member of the “Armonia” and “Animosi” choirs, with which she performed in Romania and major European cities, earning important awards. Encouraged by her teachers, who recognized her vocal potential, she moved to Bucharest to study classical singing at the “Ciprian Porumbescu” University of Music.

In 2013, she completed her Master’s degree at the same institution, under the guidance of professors Maria Hurduc and Cristina Soreanu.

Between 2013 and 2019, she was employed as a soloist at the “Nae Leonard” Musical Theatre in Galați, where she performed in opera, operetta, and musical theatre productions.

Since the autumn of 2019, she has been employed as a soloist at the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre in Bucharest.

Over the years, she has appeared in numerous festivals both nationally and internationally, and has performed in concerts at:
the “Ion Dacian” Operetta Theatre in Bucharest, the Pitești Philharmonic, the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic in Bacău, the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic in Ploiești, the Oltenia Philharmonic in Craiova, the Maria Filotti Theatre in Brăila, the “Nae Leonard” Musical Theatre in Galați, Sala Radio in Bucharest, the Goethe-Institut Paris, Kings Place Hall in London, the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center in Izmir, as well as during a concert tour in the United States of America, among others.

Starting in 2010, she began performing jazz together with renowned jazz pianist Sorin Zlat. Combining her classical vocal training and operatic experience with her love for jazz, Mihaela began exploring new expressive directions, which eventually brought her numerous awards and collaborations with artists from across Europe.

In 2009, she won the Best Young Performer Award at the Hariclea Darclée Interpretation Competition in Brăila.
In 2011, she received the Special Prize at the Paul Constantinescu Interpretation Competition in Ploiești.
That same year, she was awarded the Excellence Prize at the Romanian Lied Interpretation Competition in Brașov.

In 2011, she attended the vocal masterclasses and advanced training courses led by soprano Mariana Nicolesco.
In 2012, she won both the Radio Romania Prize and the Audience Award at the Ion Dacian Interpretation Competition in Bucharest.
In 2013, she received Third Prize at the Romanian Lied Interpretation Competition in Brașov, and in the same year she participated in the masterclasses of German soprano Elisabeth Cornelius Lund, as well as in a masterclass held by the renowned soprano Leontina Văduva.

In the summer of 2015, she performed in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Hariclea Darclée International Festival, on the stage of the Maria Filotti Theatre in Brăila.
That same year, she received the Debut Award at the Romanian Jazz Awards Gala.
In 2016, she took part in the Ada Burlui International Lied Competition in Iași (June 1–5), where she won Second Prize.
