
Born in Bucharest on August 3rd, 1988, Alexandru Ilie showed an inclination toward music from an early age. His parents encouraged him and guided him toward the “George Enescu” National College of Music. He continued his studies at the National University of Music Bucharest, graduating in 2011 in the class of Maestro Petru Andriesei, and later completed his Master’s program in Conducting Stylistics under the guidance of Maestro Horia Andreescu.
Awards and Competitions
Alexandru Ilie has participated in numerous competitions, earning remarkable distinctions:
- Prize for “Best Ranked Romanian Conductor” and Third Place at the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition
- First Prize and Third Prize at the Ionel Perlea National Conducting Competition
- In 2016, he reached the semifinals of the Felix Mendelssohn International Conducting Competition, ranking 5th out of 240 participants
- In 2022, he competed in the Arthur Nikisch International Competition, becoming a semifinalist and ranking 4th out of 66 participants
Professional Activity
With extensive experience, Alexandru Ilie collaborates frequently with philharmonics across Romania, including those in: Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, Pitești, Ploiești, Bacău, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Oradea, Satu Mare, Târgu Mureș, Botoșani, Craiova, Târgoviște, as well as with national orchestras such as:
Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, Royal Camerata, Brașov Opera Orchestra, Romanian Opera Craiova, Romanian Youth Orchestra, Iași Youth Orchestra, Moldova National Youth Orchestra, Concertino, Philarmonia Bucharest.
Alongside his classical activity, Alexandru Ilie enjoys bringing fusion concepts to the public, collaborating with well‑known pop artists such as Marius Moga, Nico, Marcel Pavel, Andra, Paula Seling, and Ovidiu Anton.
Current Roles
He currently serves as a permanent conductor at two major cultural institutions in Bucharest:
- The Comic Opera for Children
- The “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre
He is also the founder or co‑founder of Camerata Intermezzo, The Royal Choir, and VIBE Orchestra.
