THE TENORS’ DUEL – Extraordinary Concert with Ștefan von Korch and the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre Orchestra, in salon ensemble
March 7, 2025 – 7:00 PM
On the eve of International Women’s Day, tenor Ștefan von Korch launches a romantic and chivalrous challenge at the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre: “The Tenors’ Duel” – an extraordinary concert that will enliven the evening of March 7 with famous canzonettas and celebrated arias, performed by exceptional lyrical male voices, alongside moments of instrumental virtuosity featuring the Ion Dacian Theatre Orchestra in a refined salon ensemble.
The concert promises a remarkable musical experience that will delight the hearts of music lovers with some of the most beloved pieces written for the star voice of the lyrical register — the tenor.
The soloist Ștefan von Korch explains:
“The concert is inspired by the tradition of the great male vocal trios of the world, but it will also venture beyond these models, featuring a sparkling repertoire of famous arias and canzonettas — a true ‘best of’ — including essential landmarks such as ‘Nessun dorma,’ ‘La donna è mobile,’ or ‘’O sole mio,’ as well as lyrical rarities and crossover pieces meant to delight and move the audience.”

With an impressive national and international rise, Ștefan von Korch will conclude the year on the stage of Sala Palatului as a guest in the 20 Years of Viennese Christmas Anniversary Concert. During the summer, he made his debut in Carmina Burana at the prestigious Palermo Classica Festival, performed alongside the Reino de Aragón Orchestra in Spain, and was invited for a recital at Lipova Symphonic City – Maria Radna Open Air. Since the beginning of the year, he has also been the host of the Musical Extravaganza concert series, presented monthly in the capital.
Also in the course of 2024, he performed on the stage of the Târgu Mureș Philharmonic in Rossini’s Stabat Mater — a vocal‑symphonic work considered a true test of virtuosity for any tenor — as well as in Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang. He appeared in Carmina Burana at the Craiova Summer Fest, and at the Iași Opera House in the sparkling role of Camille de Jolidon in The Merry Widow 2.0, directed by Andrei Șerban, as well as at the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara in Mario Di Carlo’s production of The Merry Widow.
In 2023, the tenor moved audiences with his masterful interpretations of the demanding tenor part in Carmina Burana, for which he is considered a benchmark, and he was the only Romanian soloist on a 27‑city tour in China. Other highlights of his career include major roles in operas and operettas presented on the most important stages in Romania: The Barber of Seville, The Elixir of Love, and Falstaff (Bucharest National Opera); Rigoletto, The Merry Widow, and The Merry Widow 2.0 (Iași National Opera); I Puritani (national premiere), Rigoletto, and The Barber of Seville (Cluj‑Napoca Romanian Opera), among others.
In 2022, he expanded his repertoire with the title role in the European premiere of Giuseppe Nicolini’s Traiano in Dacia, staged at the Romanian Opera in Cluj‑Napoca. His achievements also include roles in three absolute national premieres: Bellini’s I Puritani at the Romanian Opera in Cluj‑Napoca (2016), where he performed the highest tenor part ever written for a male voice; Bellini’s La Sonnambula (2018); and the absolute national premiere of Rossini’s Messa di Gloria (2019) at the Radio Hall in Bucharest.
