
Tenor George Vîrban was born on July 6, 1994, in Tulcea and began his musical studies in 2009 at the “Dimitrie Cuclin” Arts High School in Galați, Classical Singing Department, under the guidance of professor Rodica Koler. He continued his training at the National University of Music Bucharest, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 2019, studying with soprano Mariana Colpoș.
His international debut took place in 2016 at the Saransk Opera Theatre in Russia, in the role of Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. He has won prizes at numerous vocal competitions, including:
- Vox Artis – Sibiu, Romania
- George Enesco – Paris, France
- Virginia Zeani – Târgu Mureș, Romania
- Jeunes Espoirs – Avignon, France
- Sabin Drăgoi – Timișoara, Romania
Between 2013 and 2015, he was awarded the national scholarship “Tinere Talente” of the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, the most prestigious program dedicated to young Romanian musicians.
From 2017 to 2019, he was a soloist of the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre and the Bucharest National Opera, performing roles such as Nemorino, Fenton, Beppe, Alfred, Koltay, and Count Edward. As a guest artist, he has appeared on stages such as Harbin Concert Hall, Opéra Grand Avignon, Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca, Shanghai Concert Hall, Cheboksary Opera Theatre, and Berlin Konzerthaus.
Between 2019 and 2021, he was a soloist of the prestigious Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
His operatic repertoire includes roles such as:

Fenton – Falstaff,
Roderigo – Otello,
Beppe – Pagliacci,
Nemorino – L’elisir d’amore,
Don Ottavio – Don Giovanni,
Lensky – Eugene Onegin,

Alfred – Die Fledermaus.
He currently performs both in Romania — at the National Operetta and Musical Theatre Bucharest and the Bucharest National Opera — and internationally, particularly in Germany and France.
