The “Ion Dacian” Operetta and Musical Theatre invites you on October 30 & 31 at 7:00 PM and November 1 & 2 at 6:00 PM to the final performances of Romeo and Juliet – The Musical of this year.
Romeo and Juliet (orig. Roméo et Juliette: de la Haine à l’Amour) premiered in Paris on January 19, 2001, with Gérard Presgurvic transforming Shakespeare’s masterpiece into a musical production. The original staging and choreography were created by Redha, the costumes by Dominique Borg, and the set design by Petrika Ionesco.
The Romanian premiere took place in 2009, marking a new chapter in the country’s performing arts — the first pop‑rock musical produced by a professional performing arts institution in Romania.
Starting with the 2024–2025 season, the show returns to the repertoire of the “Ion Dacian” Operetta and Musical Theatre, under the same direction of Kerenyi Miklos Gabor – KERO, who has guided a new generation of artists into the fascinating and emotionally charged world of musical theatre.
After 24 performances in this configuration, the show returns with new nuances — fresher, enriched by a cast defined by diversity, talent, and ingenuity. Throughout rehearsals and the performances so far, two new on‑stage couples have emerged, as different as they are perfectly suited for the roles of the two lovers, and a strong sense of camaraderie has formed within the entire artistic team.
The cast chosen by KERO highlights the innocence of youth, the thrill of first love, friendships and family relationships, the conflicts between generations and between the rival households, all while shaping a clear narrative direction that makes the story believable even today — in a turbulent era marked by disputes and challenges, set against an atmosphere reminiscent of a futuristic film.
Because to die for love at fifteen is both the “most beautiful” and the most tragic fate. Because an act so absolute and final — choosing to die together rather than live apart — will forever remain one of the wildest mysteries and the clearest proof of love.
Because life without love is not worth living.
Since its 2001 premiere, we have enjoyed success after success in France, Switzerland, and Belgium, and then traveled across the world. The show continues to be performed in countries such as Slovakia, Mexico, Japan, Russia, and even Israel, spreading its universal message of love across the globe.
